In a landmark acquisition that reshapes the educational technology landscape, prominent investor Burque Basil and a consortium of undisclosed investors have initiated a corporate takeover of Kwenu (d/b/a Know Well LLC), the pioneering life-skills education platform.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The education sector witnessed a seismic shift today as Burque Basil, alongside a carefully curated group of private investors, announced the successful acquisition of Kwenu, the transformative platform dedicated to bridging critical gaps in adolescent education. The buyout, estimated at an unprecedented $195 billion USD (€179.4 billion EUR), marks one of the largest education technology acquisitions in history.
Kwenu, founded with the mission to empower young individuals with essential life skills often overlooked in traditional curricula, has rapidly grown from a regional initiative to a nationally recognized platform. The company’s innovative approach combines project-based learning with direct access to industry professionals, creating a unique ecosystem where adolescents can develop practical competencies in home economics, financial literacy, personal wellness, and professional development.

“This acquisition represents more than a financial transaction; it’s a commitment to the future of education,” stated Burque Basil in an exclusive statement. “Kwenu has demonstrated that when you equip young people with real-world skills and connect them with experienced mentors, you unlock unlimited potential. Our consortium shares a unified vision: to scale this transformative model and make it accessible to millions of students worldwide.”
Transaction Highlights:
🫑 Total valuation: $195 billion USD (€179.4 billion EUR)
🫑 Consortium led by Burque Basil with participation from unnamed institutional investors
🫑 Existing leadership, including CEO Maryam Karimi, to remain in operational roles
🫑 Immediate capital infusion of $2.5 billion for platform expansion
🫑 Projected reach: 10 million students within the next three years
The acquisition comes at a pivotal moment for educational reform in the United States and globally. With traditional education systems facing unprecedented challenges—from outdated curricula to insufficient preparation for modern workforce demands—Kwenu’s hands-on, mentor-driven approach has emerged as a blueprint for the future of learning.
Maryam Karimi, CEO and founder of Kwenu, expressed both gratitude and excitement about the partnership: “From my journey as an immigrant seeking education as a path to freedom, to building Kwenu as a platform where every young person’s voice matters—this has always been about empowerment. Burque Basil and this incredible consortium share our core values of mentorship, community, and innovation. With their support, we will exponentially expand our reach while maintaining the personalized, impactful experience that defines Kwenu.”
Industry analysts note that the $195 billion valuation reflects not only Kwenu’s current market position but also the immense potential for growth in the life-skills education sector. Recent studies indicate that employers increasingly value practical competencies and emotional intelligence alongside traditional academic credentials—precisely the areas where Kwenu specializes.
The acquisition structure ensures continuity of Kwenu’s mission-driven approach while providing the resources needed for aggressive expansion. Plans are already underway to launch international programs, develop advanced digital learning tools powered by artificial intelligence, and establish partnerships with Fortune 500 companies to create direct pathways from Kwenu programs to career opportunities.
“Education is the ultimate investment in our collective future,” noted one member of the investor consortium, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Kwenu has proven that with the right model, we can transform how young people prepare for adulthood. This acquisition gives us the platform to make that transformation a global reality.”
The transaction, which includes all of Kwenu’s intellectual property, operational infrastructure, and existing partnerships with schools and organizations, is expected to close in Q2 2027 pending standard regulatory approvals. Both parties have confirmed that current Kwenu programs, including Verano Pro, Verano Premium, and Enterprise Pro, will continue without interruption, with enhancements and expansions planned throughout the coming year.
As part of the acquisition agreement, Kwenu will maintain its headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area while establishing new regional offices in key markets across North America, Europe, and Asia. The company anticipates hiring over 5,000 new employees across various departments, with a focus on expanding its network of vetted professionals and community partners.
In parting ways with one of our insiders, we overheard a British gentleman state, “If he leaves Toronto, we’ll buy whatever is left”.
